Message from the CEO
Biozipcode, Inc. traces its origins to 2015. At the time, Studio Makyu Co., Ltd. (represented by Fumihisa Kojima) established a laboratory in the Bioinnovation Center as part of a research collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Shiga University of Medical Science. The department’s former professor, Hideto Kojima, later became a Specially Appointed Professor at Shiga University of Medical Science, Department of Regenerative Medicine.
Alongside conventional in vivo and in vitro research, the team supported R&D through in silico approaches (computer simulations). This work included using bioinformatics tools such as BLAST, developing proprietary software, and using GPGPUs for large-scale computing.
In January 2022, Biozipcode, Inc. was established to continue the research collaboration initiated by Studio Makyu Co., Ltd. From April of that year, a joint research laboratory was established at Shiga University of Medical Science, Department of Regenerative Medicine. The research has focused on developing new therapies aimed at curing diabetes and other hard-to-treat diseases. We have also pursued new treatments using cell-targeting peptides (Biozipcode™).
Diabetes is generally considered difficult to cure once it develops. We have worked to understand scientifically why the disease persists and to use those findings to guide the development of treatments.
In June 2023, significant research findings relevant to the possibility of curing diabetes were published in a scientific journal. In response, Biozipcode, Inc. decided to increase its funding for the joint research program and accelerate the work. Despite challenges along the way, we are now working with academic institutions and companies, bringing in capital, and preparing to translate our research into real-world applications.
Since 2026, we have collaborated with the Department of Biocommunication Development at Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine to further advance research and development in cell-targeted therapy.

About Us
Grounded in diabetes stem cell research and Biozipcode™ cell-targeting technology, we work toward treatments that address the roots of hard-to-treat diseases and new approaches to care.
We work with pharmaceutical companies, research organizations, healthcare providers, and investors to advance new treatments through collaborative research, out-licensing, and co-development.
We work to take discoveries made at universities beyond the lab and develop them into diagnostic and therapeutic technologies that reach patients.
A research-driven biotech company built on joint research with universities, translating scientific findings into new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for real-world use.
Our team brings together expertise in medicine, life sciences, information science, and business development to advance projects from basic research toward real-world applications.
